Delighted to discover (thanks Dad!) artist Lucy West who paints stunning works of space and the cosmos!
And I don't say 'stunning' lightly...her ability to convey the light, movement, and vastness of the universe is just phenomenal. Go and look. Why are you still here?! : )

Fighting aliens is easy when you can see them, but what about when they pack a lethal punch (or laser?), and are small enough to hide behind Antman? Yeah, thought so.
This month's Kickstarter project spotlight goes to Night Shift. A short film project, by Noah Campagna and crew, about Barry, an ordinary convience-store worker, who must suddenly protect and defend the shop against an alien invasion --all while keeping the customers completely oblivious to the situation.
Read more about project and help out here!
After a very long design process, our capsules are now unleashed!
Thank you to everyone for your patience!! and happy 2016. So many discoveries lie ahead. *ugh* SO MANY!
This month, one of the projects we've backed is Andrew Radar's book 'Mc Longneck's Epic Space Adventure'. I mean, there needs to be more space adventuring and educational things like this out for children. You can go here to see more details about his project, and even pledge if you'd like be a part of the book happening!
This month and, most likely, in the following months, 5% of the price of all your store purchases at We The Sciencey will be donated to Surgicorp International, who provide free surgical care to children in many, many countries, children who would otherwise be unable to have the care. That's hope for humanity right there. We've got to keep that going.
If you want to find out more about Surgicorps, you can visit their site here. You can even donate or volunteer, if the thought so strikes you. And, almost forgot! If you shop on Amazon, you can easily change your shopping settings, so that 0.5% of the price of certain purchases will automatically go toward helping Surgicorps keep doing what they're doing. How easy is that?
Keep adventuring. And always, always, stay brilliantly you.
This month, 5% of every sale in our shop goes to backing David Lyons and his goal to make and install a solar-tracker for the community of Ejura, Ghana.
From David's Kickstarter project page:
The community of greater Ejura is suffering. These people mostly do not have access to electricity or running water. I have personally seen the living conditions of families in this community and am amazed at their resilience and high spirits given the circumstances. Bringing electricity in the form of a small solar tracker will improve the standard of living and safety for a number of members in this community. Ideally this system will be able to charge cell phones, lanterns, and even power a small water pump.
You can find out more about the project or help to continue to fund it here!
Major changes in the shop and blog will happen over the Summer/Early Autumn. We won't say much, as we rather like the idea of remaining mysterious, but there will be new art+science categories, new designs & creations in existing categories, the disappearance of some existing things (don't be sad, this change is good) and most certainly a few surprises you've yet to see anywhere else.
What has inspired this change? A lot of things really. Books we've read, stories we've written, art we've seen, lectures we've heard. Life. Just normal life and the realisation that, if you look hard enough, it's not so normal. Not so ordinary. We don't think We The Sciencey should be either. So we're embracing our sciencey-ness and endeavouring to show the world that they have it, too, in wonderful abundance.
In the meantime, why not explore a little of the extraordinariness of the world and people around you? Here's a good place to start.

This month, we're backing the creation of hollywood composer & orchestrator, Penka Kouneva. Her new album is entitled: "The Woman Astronaut". Over the last 15 years Penka has scored independent feature films, video games and television --she's been an orchestrator for Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Matrix, as well as the Lead Orchestrator on two popular sci-fi films: Elysium and Ender’s Game.
You can find out more about her upcoming album or help to fund it here,
or visit Penka's website,
or even better: listen to some of her compositions!
Our first funding project for this year, is the Mars One
foundation's Mars lander and satellite mission (projected for
2018) --the first step on the way to establishing the first
permanent human settlement on Mars!
You can find more information about Mars One here and
in our shop, throughout the month of January will go to
fund the mission. We're super excited about this and plan
to blog about this mission as it is updated! Many thanks! :D
this is the first 'happenings' post to our new site.
thanks for your patience as we make the transition!
this will be an area where we list any new giveaway information,
events, new projects we're funding, new shop additions, etc.
